about

This track features the violinist Jacques Mindreau (Electro-Jacques Therapy, Krasnogosk, OQO). I wrote it on solstice of 2019 when I heard this story on CBC radio in the truck about how all these grey whales were being found dead on the west coast of the continent. They said on the news that it was happening from Mexico to Alaska and that no one knew why. 2020 turned out to be a crazy year and this song has a different meaning to me now at the death of the year. It is sad but hopeful too.

lyrics

Dm Am C G://
Solstice 2019, the whales started to die
They piled up on the coast
From the Baja up to the snow
They said no one knew why

In 2020 There will be plenty to
Mourn.
More Born.
Plenty more boys, plenty more girls.
Hear it on the CBC and then I, I started to cry
There's so much beauty in the fragile system
that is starting to die
If we see the death of everything does that mean that we
were really alive?
